The Apprenticeship Office for Local 150 Operating Engineers is opening applications for the trades of Heavy Equipment Operator, Heavy Equipment Repair Technician, Geothermal Well Driller Operator, and Construction and Building Inspector.

Applications will be available at the following times and locations:

  • OCTOBER 22 – 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. – 740 E. US Highway 6, Utica, IL 61373

Selected applicants will be screened for substance abuse before acceptance. A $25 application fee per program will be required at the time of request in the form of a money order only, made payable to “Local 150 Apprenticeship Fund”. Please note: All applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. The address on your driver’s license MUST MATCH the address on your application.

Minimum Qualifications for the program are as follows:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Must have graduated high school or obtained a GED. Applicant will provide high school transcript for evaluation purposes.
  • Be a resident of the jurisdictional area of Local 150.
  • A valid driver’s license and the maintenance of such are required at the time of selection and throughout apprenticeship.
  • A statement from a licensed physician stating physical ability to perform the work of the trades will be required 30 days after being accepted into the program.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.

Completed applications and all the following documents: Educational / Military Transcripts, Reference Letters, Birth Certificate, Proof of Previous Employment, and Prior Experience Questionnaire must be postmarked or returned to the Training Center: 19800 W. South Arsenal Rd., Wilmington, IL 60481 no later than November 30, 2022.

Please note: The training site will be closed Nov. 24-26, 2022 in observance of Thanksgiving.

NEW! Tourism Attractions & Festivals Grant Program
What: The Tourism Attraction and Festivals Grant program will help develop new or enhance existing tourism attractions located across the state – including but not limited to museums, state parks, historical sites, events, performances, and festivals. The funds may be utilized for capital projects, equipment, training, transportation, housing, receptions, entertainment, photography, temporary housing, and interpretive programs.  The goal of the program is to attract additional visitors and overnight stays that will bring foot traffic to communities across Illinois. 
Potential Applicants: Units of local government, nonprofits, local promotion groups, and businesses.
How Much: $15 million total. $5 million for festivals and events, and $10 million for attractions. Awards range from $15,000 to $500,000. Matching not required for nonprofits and local governments, but preference will be given to those providing matching funds. 75% match required for businesses.

NEW! Illinois Works Pre-Apprenticeship Program
What: The State of Illinois is committed to ensuring that all Illinois residents have access to careers in the construction industry and building trades, especially those who have been historically underrepresented. Community-based organizations can apply for grant funding to recruit, prescreen, and provide pre-apprenticeship skills training that help underrepresented populations successfully transition into full apprenticeship programs in construction and building trades.
Potential Applicants: Non-profits, including public colleges or universities.
How Much: $15 million total, grants will range between $200,000 and $550,000. $8m for new programs, $7m for contract extensions.
Deadline: September 27th, 2022.
